Q: I don’t live in Bristol, can I still join BNN?
A: So long as you are likely to be able to attend out events in Bristol (England), you are welcome to join. We have many members who live in the surrounding areas, or come to Bristol regularly, but don’t live here.
Q: What do you mean by “interested in Nature”?
A: It’s a broad topic isn’t it? The focus of our events and activities range from conservation, botany, wildlife film-making and photography, bird watching, and much more.
Q: Do I need to have any qualifications, experience or skills to join?
A: No! While we aim our events at those with some experience or prior knowledge, all you need to attend is a passion for nature. We have plenty of members who love nature, but do not have any qualifications or experience and they love gaining skills and knowledge at our events 🙂
Q: If BNN is for young people, can I bring my child to your event?
A: In a word, no. BNN is a group for young adults to network and learn, and our events are not aimed at or insured for children to attend. There are plenty of child friendly events and activities in Bristol: the City Farms, Bristol Zoo and Avon Wildlife Trust are a great place to start.
Q: If BNN is for young people, can I join? (I’m over 30)
A: Yes! We aim our activities at this age category (18-30ish) because we feel other groups are not always very welcoming to young people. Some expect a lot of prior knowledge, are hard to get to by public transport, or have prohibitive fees.
Here at BNN, our workshops are aimed at those without prior knowledge but want to learn, and we aim to make our events accessible in terms of time, location and cost. We have plenty of over 30s at BNN, so welcome aboard!
Q: How can I get more involved?
A: We are a small team of volunteers who run BNN in our free time. While we don’t have any official volunteering opportunities, we do welcome people to get involved by organising events and activities for the wider Bristol Nature Network. Just get in touch with one of the committee members if you have an idea! We also seek new committee members from time to time, so look out on our newsletters and facebook page for opportunities.
